Yeng Constantino Takes Control of Her Music: A Major Milestone in Her Career
In an exciting turn of events, the talented Yeng Constantino, hailed as the Pop Rock Royalty of the Philippines, is making waves in the music industry with her latest career moves.
Earlier this year, Yeng made the bold decision to join Republic Records Philippines, showcasing her determination to take ownership and direct management of her compositions.
Her latest album, aptly titled "Yeng: Reimagined," is a testament to her artistic vision as it features updated versions of her cherished songs. During a recent appearance on It's Showtime, Yeng expressed her gratitude towards her former label and publisher, Star Music, who dedicatedly cared for her songs for an astonishing 17 years. She also made it clear that there are no hard feelings stemming from their separation.
For those unfamiliar with the music industry, songwriters can sign their compositions with a music publisher, who takes care of marketing and managing the songs. However, once the contract expires or is terminated, the rights to the music return to the composer.
But why did Yeng make this decision? In an interview with CinemaNews, Yeng shared her realization that led her to take control of her music. "The pandemic has definitely influenced my decision. It made me contemplate, will the world ever return to normal? How can I sustain my career in this climate of uncertainty?" she candidly admitted.
She further explained, "The anxiety I experienced during that time was overwhelming. So I thought, I need a passive income. That's when I considered my catalog. If I can have all my songs and make them my own, maybe that can be my financial security."
Claiming her songs from Star Music took approximately a year, a process that began two years ago. In a recent vlog by Ogie Diaz, Yeng openly discussed how her difficult childhood and financial struggles motivated her to secure her livelihood and future by reclaiming her songs. "My childhood was truly traumatic," Yeng shared emotionally. "It's challenging to be poor, to hear your mother constantly worrying and your father burdened with debt. I don't want that for myself or my future children. That's my greatest fear," she added. Yeng emphasized that her statements are not a reflection of ingratitude towards her parents, but rather an understanding of the sacrifices they made to provide for their family.
This new chapter in Yeng's career opens up exciting possibilities for her as she plans to record new versions of her songs, taking on the role of producer as well. It marks yet another significant milestone in her artistic journey.
The future looks brightly reimagined for Yeng Constantino, as she fearlessly takes the reins of her music and paves the way for a thriving and fulfilling career ahead.
